All about Sustainable bedding
From organic cotton to Tencel Lyocell and recycled fibres: our sustainable bed linen is made for calm, softness and everyday ease. If you're unsure which material to choose, clear product information, guidance and fabric samples will quickly point you in the right direction.
Better sleep starts with the material
Sustainable bedding is about more than a green label. A truly good choice combines sleep comfort with conscious material choices, responsible production and quality that doesn't disappear after a few washes. You notice it straight away in how a fabric feels on your skin, how well the bedding breathes and how comfortable your bed stays through the night.
If you want to compare bedding on sustainability, don't just look at colour or price, but also at the origin of the fibres, the finish and the lifespan. It's precisely that combination that makes an environmentally conscious or more fairly produced product valuable in daily use.
What to look for
- Fibres with a clear origin, such as organic cotton, Tencel Lyocell or recycled materials
- Comfort properties such as softness, breathability and temperature regulation
- Transparency about certifications, material composition and care
- Quality that stays beautiful, so you won't need to buy again as quickly
Which sustainable bedding is right for you?
Not every material feels the same. That's why it's smart to choose based on your sleep preference. Are you looking for sustainable organic bedding with a familiar feel, a smooth and airy duvet cover, or an easy-care set that feels ultra-soft? This overview will help.

Certifications that help you decide
A certification makes a sustainability claim more concrete. It doesn't tell you everything about how bedding feels to sleep in, but it does tell you more about fibres, processing or product safety. So always look at the information on the product page and not only at the material name.
Common certifications
GOTS
GOTS is relevant for textiles with organic fibres and sets requirements for both processing and the origin of the material.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
This label focuses on testing the finished product for harmful substances, so you know better what actually comes into contact with your skin.
GRS and FSC
GRS helps when assessing products with recycled materials. FSC is mainly relevant for wood-based fibres, such as in the supply chain of certain lyocell materials. Not every product has the same certification, so always check the specifications for each collection.
How to choose a sustainable duvet cover or fitted sheet
Choosing a sustainable duvet cover or sustainable fitted sheet becomes easier if you first look at your sleep habits. Do you tend to sleep hot, do you mainly want softness, or are you looking for bedding that's easy to wash and dries quickly? Filtering by that helps you avoid a poor purchase and choose something you'll genuinely benefit from every night.
Practical buying guide
- If you sleep hot or clammy, choose a material that breathes well and wicks away moisture quickly
- If you like a natural, calm base, sustainable cotton bedding is often a good choice
- If you want as little hassle as possible with care, look for quick-drying, shape-retaining fabrics
- Always check the size, mattress height and whether you have a regular mattress, topper or split topper
- Pay attention to the product information for material blend, closure and washing instructions
On SJUMO's product pages, you'll find clear sizes, care instructions and material information. You order with free shipping in the Netherlands and Belgium and a return option subject to the terms and conditions, so you can make your choice calmly and clearly.
Frequently asked questions about sustainable bedding
What makes a duvet cover sustainable?
You can recognise a sustainable duvet cover by the combination of material, production and lifespan. Think organic cotton, recycled fibres or lyocell, combined with clear product information and ideally a relevant certification.
What is the best quality bedding?
The best quality depends on what matters to you. If you're looking for fresh and natural, cotton is often a good fit. If you're looking for extra smoothness and breathability, Tencel is a strong choice. Good quality feels pleasant, stays beautiful and matches your sleep preference.
Is organic cotton always the best choice?
Not always. For many people, organic cotton is a logical choice because of its natural feel and clear origin, but there isn't one material that's best in every situation. Tencel or recycled fibres can also be a very good fit, depending on comfort and care.
How do I know if bedding is fairly produced?
Look for concrete information about the supply chain, the fibres used and certifications. The more specific a brand is about material composition, certifications and product properties, the better you can judge whether it is more fairly and responsibly produced bedding.
Which bedding is comfortable for hot sleepers?
Hot sleepers often choose airy, breathable fabrics that wick away moisture well. Tencel Lyocell is popular for that because of its smooth, cool feel. The weave and finish also play a role, so always look beyond the material name alone.
