Frequently asked questions

All our pillowcases measure 60x70 cm. Choose Silky Smooth for an ultra-soft, easy-care pillowcase, Tencel™ Sateen for a cool, smooth and naturally antibacterial surface, or Organic Cotton for a natural, breathable feel.

All pillowcases are 60x70 cm, the standard Dutch pillow size, and are sold per piece. They are the same pillowcases included with our duvet covers and bundles, so extra ones blend seamlessly into your set.

Your pillowcase picks up more skin oils, make-up and moisture than the rest of your bedding, so it is best changed more often. With a spare, you always have a fresh one ready without washing your whole set or waiting for it to dry.

Yes. Their smooth, low-friction surface is kind to skin and hair, and every pillowcase is hypoallergenic and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. The natural Tencel™ and the Silky Smooth options also regulate moisture, which helps keep the surface fresh.

Silky Smooth and Organic Cotton wash at 40°C, Tencel™ Sateen at 30°C, all with a mild detergent and no fabric softener. They dry quickly, so a fresh case is ready in no time. See our guide How often should you wash your bedding? for full care instructions.

All about Sustainable Pillowcases

Do you want to sleep softly, fresh and more consciously without compromising on comfort? In this collection, you'll find sustainable pillowcases in organic cotton and TENCEL™ sateen. That makes it easy to choose based on feel, temperature and look, and to pair your favourite with matching sustainable bedding from SJUMO.

When is a pillowcase truly sustainable?

A sustainable pillowcase is more than a label on its own. It comes down to the choice of material, production with care for people and the environment, and clear product information with relevant certifications. At the same time, you want your pillowcase to feel soft, wash well and keep looking good with normal use. That way, you choose comfort in bed as well as something that fits a more conscious lifestyle. Want help understanding labels? See certifications for bedding explained.

Organic cotton or TENCEL™ sateen: this is the difference

The best material for a pillowcase depends on how you sleep and the feel you're looking for.

Property Organic cotton TENCEL™ sateenFeel Soft, natural and calm Smooth, supple and extra softBreathability Breathable and comfortable Breathable and pleasant on warmer nightsMoisture regulation Fresh for everyday use Strong moisture regulationLook Natural and matte Smooth with a subtle sheenCare Easy to wash according to the care label Easy to care for, always follow the care labelA good fit for Anyone who wants a natural touch Anyone who sleeps warm or wants a smooth sleep surface

How to choose the pillowcase that suits your nights

  • Do you get warm quickly or struggle with perspiration? Then a breathable, smooth pillowcase like TENCEL™ sateen is often especially comfortable.
  • Do you prefer a more natural, soft touch against your skin? Then organic cotton often suits your sleep routine better.
  • If you wash your bedding often, also look at ease of care and ideally rotate between several pillowcases.
  • If you want a calm overall look in the bedroom, match your pillowcase to your duvet cover, fitted sheet or choose a matching bundle.
  • If you're sensitive to heat or to how fabrics feel on your skin, materials that stay fresh easily and breathe well are often the most comfortable choice.

How to keep your sustainable pillowcase fresh and looking good for longer

  • Wash new bedding first and always follow the care label for the specific material.
  • Wash gently to keep the softness, colour and fibre quality looking their best.
  • Avoid drying on unnecessarily high heat and ideally let your pillowcase dry gently.
  • Rotate several pillowcases and wash them regularly for a fresher bed and a longer lifespan.

Frequently asked questions about sustainable pillowcases

Still unsure? These are short, practical answers to frequently asked questions about the materials and feel of the pillowcases in this collection.

What is better: silk or a satin pillowcase?

Silk is a fibre. Satin or sateen mainly refers to the weave or finish, and therefore to how smooth a fabric feels. Silk looks luxurious, but often requires a little more care. If you're mainly looking for a supple, smooth sleep surface that is practical for everyday use, then TENCEL™ sateen pillowcases are a logical choice within this collection.

What is the best material for pillows?

For the pillow itself, it's mainly about support, filling and your sleeping position. That determines how your neck and head are supported. The pillowcase around it does something different: it mainly affects how it feels on your skin, the sleep climate and how easy it is to keep everything fresh. If you sleep warm or want a smoother surface, TENCEL™ sateen is often comfortable. If you're looking for a natural, soft touch instead, organic cotton pillowcases are often a better fit.

Is a satin pillowcase good for your skin?

A smooth satin or sateen finish can create less friction than rougher fabrics and may therefore feel more comfortable against your skin. Skin comfort also depends on breathability, moisture regulation and how often you change your pillowcase. If you're looking for a smooth, breathable option, TENCEL™ sateen is a good choice within this category.
